I am very happy I read this book. This is not a book I would have normally picked up on my own, but I am very happy my book club chose it. The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die is a suspense/ action/ mystery novel. This book starts when a girl wakes up and doesn't remember anything. Then, a man comes and drags her to the woods to kill her. During all of this, the girl still remembers nothing, not even her own name. Then she escapes from her abductor. As the story goes on, the main character starts to learn more about her past but her memory is still mostly gone. From the very first page to the last page, this book had me on the edge of my seat making me want to read on. This book is short in length and well paced, however I did feel the ending was slightly rushed. The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die is also a Truman nominee. I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading more of April Henry's books in the future.
Insignia by S.J. Kincaid is a futuristic/ dystopian novel with a hint of mystery. Insignia is about a boy named Tom. Currently World War 3 is going on but this war is different from all the others. This war is fought entirely in space with teenagers piloting them on earth. Meanwhile, Tom hops from casino to casino with his dad trying to win games. The games Tom plays are completely virtual though. Tom also attends a virtual school. Suddenly, Tom finds himself getting recruited to work for the government. Then Tom finds himself wrongly accused and has to protect his friends. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed Insignia. I had no idea to the solution of the mystery. Legend by Marie Lu is a dystopian fiction book. This book has two main characters: Day, a 15 year old criminal, and June a fifteen year old military prodigy. At first the two characters seem complete opposites, but as the book progresses the two paths intertwine. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat, and make you want to keep reading. One thing that I liked in particular about Legend was that since the chapters alternate between the two characters, when one character was narrating the font was one color, and when the other character was narrating the font was another color. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is the first in a trilogy and I am looking forward to reading the other two books.
Variant by Robison Wells is a mystery/ suspense/ action novel. This book is about a foster kid name Benson Fisher. Benson applies to attend a boarding school, and once he opens the door a kid says to him "We can't get out of here." At first this book seems boring but after you get into it this book is amazing. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. If you like Variant by Robison Wells ,then I recommend reading the sequel: Feedback.

Since the government runs the virtnet they know to catch this gamer they are going to need another gamer. Steelheart By Brandon Sanderson is a Science Fiction/Fantasy/Mystery Young Adult Novel. I couldn't put this book down. Mr. Sanderson is a great writer I thought I had the mystery all figured out but everything changed right at the end. Steelheart is about a boy named David who's dad dies due to a "epic". Epics are regular humans who somehow gained superhuman powers right after a explosion in the sky. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz is the first book in the Alex Rider series.
This book falls into the adventure genre. The main character is named Alex Rider a 14 year old boy who went to live with his uncle when his parents died in a plane crash. I don't want to spoil anything so I'll give you a very brief overview. Events happen and suddenly Alex finds himself caught up in the world of espionage, and he goes on his first mission. I absolutely loved this book. The plot keeps your attention and makes you want to keep reading until the very end. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I hope you like Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz as much as I did. |
