I liked this book because it was thrilling, exciting and seemed like everything there could happen even though some of the ideas were wild.  I also liked the humor of the pajamas and all the humor of just traveling back in time and seeing some odd events.  My favorite character is Lincoln because he is humorous and he is the brawn to any situation.  I would recommend reading the first book in the series before reading this one.  There are lots of references to things that happened in the first book, and the first book provides the foundation for this book.  I hope there will be a third book in this series soon!

I received this book courtesy of the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The One and Only Bob by Katherine Applegate

My son and I read The One and Only Ivan together and couldn't wait to dive into this sequel.  I just love how the author's voice comes through as genuine, no matter whether she is writing as Ivan the gorilla or as Bob the dog.  This novel has a bit more action than The One and Only Ivan simply due to its setting and plot line.   It was rewarding to learn what had happened to Bob, Ivan and Ruby after the end of the first book.  Of course, we are now eagerly awaiting a third book, perhaps entitled The One and Only Ruby.  These are such memorable characters and my son enjoyed the book so much he was talking about it for days after we finished reading it.  I think that's a pretty high endorsement from a 9 year old.

Here is my son's perspective: "I really liked this book.  It's full of surprises.  I learned about Bob's origin story and what Bob's life is like after the first book ends.  I would rate this a five star book!"

Sam's Review - As dictated to Mom

The Wild Robot is a book about a ship sinking, but not the Titanic, and it was carrying a bunch of ROZZUM units.  Five units were destroyed and one unit survived.  Roz decided to live on the island and help the animals.

I really liked the book.  I have already started The Wild Robot Escapes!

Mom's review -

I really enjoyed reading this book with Sam.  There are a lot of important lessons in the book that are conveyed in a meaningful and interesting way.  I always think it is a good sign when he wants to order the next book in the series before we have even finished the first one.  Highly recommend!

In celebration of Sam's first blog review, he asked to host a contest for a winner to receive their own copy of The Wild Robot.  Be sure to comment on his video review on our Facebook page for your chance to win.  Winner by random draw, US only, contest ends 8/26/18.

If you have been following our Facebook page, you probably know that there is another Walworth that likes to read as well.  Sam just started second grade and we thought it would be fun to add a page for reviews of books for other kids his age.  I will also add my input as a parent, if we read the book together.  Look for reviews coming soon to this page and we hope it helps you find some great books for those younger readers in your life!
